http://www.dailytech.com/Western+Digital+Launches+450GB+300+600GB+330+VelociRaptors/article18058c.htm

my question is "why sell the 600GB version for 30 bucks more than a 450GB version?" lol

maybe markups will boost up the 600GB version so it costs more but....why would a consumer buy the 450GB drive? lol

I wish they made SSDs at this price and capacity :D

These aren't needed anymore. The 1TB drives with 2 platters out nowadays are so dense it's w/e. Just raid two normal 7200RPM drives for great freedom. OR jump on the SSD bandwagon. They are expensive, but VERY quick. I've used a few and liked 'em :)

RAID = transfer rates. Doesn't affect seek times.

I'd rather get an SSD, though.

I agree but the problem remains the $$$$ on those SSD's

60GB OCZ Vertex Turbo == 300GB WD 10k Raptor

that is kinda annoying to have to choose out :D

The best part about a SSD is that it makes no noise, it's shock resistant, and it boots Win 7 in a single-digit amount of seconds :D They're moving to a smaller process soon so they'll start to become more realistic by the end of the year.

ummmmm.....isn't booting to windows fast based more on the amount of RAM you have than read times of the hard drive? or have I been living a lie for the past 8+ years? lol

Well apart from thinking the same I do know that just loading the files also takes more time.. Faster HDD incl. read times should help with that, not to mention the 240Mb/s the Vertex Turbo does..

SSDs improve boot time by a godly amount. Restarts aren't much of a hassle anymore because you don't have to wait nearrrrr as long. Can't wait till the new ssd process so we can get more space for less moneys..and faster!

I'll be getting one just for the OS when they become cheaper.
Well and games, but only a select few.

I've been dying to get one just for my OS.
don't need it for games since games can just dump everything into RAM.
8gb of ram = goodness :D wish I had 12 :( I neeeeedz i7 first lol

This is how I use mine. SSD for os/games, raid1 (mirror) HDD for everything else.

This is ramdisk right? I've never used it. How much room do I need to try it with BC2? I have 4gb ram.

I am waiting until SLC ones get as cheaper as MLCs nowdays. I don't trust MLCs.

I'm still iffy on SSDs. They sound pretty awesome in theory, but it's flash memory, so they'll eventually begin to deteriorate. Only time will tell how good the write leveling on the drives is. Until then, I'm keeping everything backed up on regular drives k, thanks.
