If you want to lower FPS don't do anything to your configs and you could try that thing Brains posted.. But I been playing with crappy machine for along time.. I tried every config and setting you can think of..

But here is what actually worked for me..

Go to video tab in options lower most of that stuff to simple reflections and a few others don't mess with that anti aliasing and stuff.

Now that didn't really do much for me but may for some people..

what worked for me was to go to sound tab or options can't remember anyway set your sound quality to medium or low.. That is what actually helped raise and steady my fps more then anything else whats so ever.

But to really get better FPS upgrade to dual core processor or better. You can buy really good Vid Card but won't help if your still using a single core processor.

ya good points. and if lowering the settings doesn't work for you, try upping the settings to force more work to be done by the video card (raise AA and AF, use HDR, etc). this will help reduce work being done on the CPU (since TF2 is a CPU based game rather than GPU). let the CPU handle what it needs to and have the GPU handle the advanced visual graphics.

**may seem silly that raising settings would give you better FPS but since TF2 is so heavily CPU based, if you have an awesome GPU than force the GPU to do more work so the CPU doesn't have to waste cycles rendering something that the GPU could do instantly**
