My Team Fortress 2 data file got deleted, so I decided to uninstall it and download it again as I was having some trouble with it anyway. When I went to download it from Steam, it would fluctuate between 50 kb/s and about 600 kb/s. I can download files from Torrents and other websites just fine.

I tried deleting the clientregistry.blob like Valve suggests in their troubleshooting guide and it still is slow. I tried reinstalling Steam and its still slow. I tried changing the download region under Settings on Steam to some where close to me and it still downloads slowly. Any suggestions or fixes for this? Is this on the Steam servers or is it something with my computer?

I remember I used to have this problem with my old internet, I fixed it by going into the settings and chaging it to the faster net speed (i think its like 2M or something). Seems steam like to slow you net speed if you tell it your internet is slow.

Their download servers could be overloaded as well, but I doubt that. Most of the time steam uses all of my bandwidth.

I don't think it's a problem on your end, but with work they may be doing server-side.
Also, do you use a router? Have any QoS crap set up?

open steam, go to settings then click the download tab, make sure its set to your connection speed, I had that trouble awhile back it was set at 56k and i put it to the right setting, and make sure the location selected is one close to you. Just a thought

I tried changing the location and the internet speed and it didnt change. As Stewlounse said, it probably is the Steam servers. There are a bunch of posts on the Steam Forums about people experiencing the same problem.
