anyone else care about soccer here?
well I'm a huge soccer fanatic.
just wondering if anyone here wants to fill out brackets with the teams you think are going to win the cup. I'll throw something together if there are enough people interested.
VIVA BRASIL!

When I was living in Korea I was introduced to the World Cup and how seriously Koreans took it. My Uncle would honestly pester me to watch the games. Being polite I watched, but I could never get into it.
In 2006, I came to appreciate the World Cup. I remember reading articles in the Washington Post about how seriously soccer fans were all over the world when it came to the World Cup with the exception of the United States.
I don't know what it is, but most don't care for it.

I would rather watch "soccer" than football. I find it more exciting, but I think that is why I am a hockey fan. Hockey and soccer are very similar.

well I was born into soccer. my entire family plays/played soccer at some point in their life. me, brother, sister, father, mother, aunts, uncles, cousins...everyone. I just could sit and watch soccer games on tv all day. I can't do that for any other sport. I've just recently over the past few years have developed an ability to watch football and basketball, and I've always loved hockey but after a while I just get antsy and have to do something else. It may just be the way american sports are run. with all the TV timeouts and commercials...it just never stays continuous. there's always some break, pause, time out to just ruin whatever flow the game had going. and that IS a legit tactic for coaches to call a timeout to try and stop the other team from their current hotstreak. it's been brought up on sportscenter and other ESPN shows about doing what soccer does and have no tv time outs during the quarters/period/halfs but have all the advertising on the players' uniforms and around the field/court/rink. I know I hate getting into a basketball game or football game just to have to wait a couple minutes through commercials, finally get back to the game then have a coach call a timeout 2 seconds later than boom, back to commercials...just sucks.

interesting to see the american view on soccer. here in germany, soccer is actually a real big deal and i'd say that 90% of the male population is a soccer fan. almost no other sport is really promoted. i do really never see any basketball or handball or anything in commercials or elsewhere. you have no clue how it was here when the world cup was held in 2006 in germany. everyone who wasn't soccer fan before turned into one over night and the only one topic to ever discuss during that time was, yea you guessed right, soccer.
i, as someone who sees no excitement in watching 20 idiots chasing a ball and 2 guys trying to catch it, felt very uncomfortable back then.

I'd be so up for this.
even though I want Brasil to win every world cup until the end of time. I'd give my good ol USA a world cup if it would completely turn around american sports. ESPN is starting to show alot of soccer matches on tv. EPL on saturdays, la liga on sundays, tuesday/wednesday they show some more EPL and they showed all of the confederations cup, u21 world cups, and will show all of the 2010 world cups plus Euro in 2012
