Okay, for some reason, now when every time I start up steam, my computer turns 8-bit colors, and I have to go into the settings and change it. Plus, every time I load any game, steam or not, for a few seconds it goes 8 bit colors, then some just continue to the game, but others (Like plants vs zombies) get screwed up to the point of unplayability. Can someone help?

First thing that pops in my head is reinstall video drivers...

what caused it to change in the first place?
and vista only does what you tell it to. ;)
try to update video card drivers, roll back drivers, or uninstall/reinstall any hardware/software that you added to your system right before the 8bit awesomeness started happening

It all started after I went into the properties of Grand Theft Auto 3 and chose "Run in 256 colors" and now it does it for everything, even though I unchecked it, and uninstalled GTA 3.

And I don't know how to do all of this video driver stuff. I'm really stupid.

1.) go to website of video card. (nvidia or ati)
2.) download newest driver for your card. (super easy on nvidia)
3.) click downloaded executable file.
4.) click allow when the admin rights popup pops up.
5.) go grab a coke or take a shit.
6.) return to computer, if not done, take opposite action outlined in point 5.
7.) probably restart computer when done.

Right click steam.exe and check if it has run in 256 colors on.

Yup. That was it. I have no idea WHY it was checked, but that fixed it. Thanks.
