It is basically the equivalent of jackass in japan.

There is a certain group of guys that have to do all these challenges that are humiliating/painful/disgusting/etc.

It is not very different then jackass. There is more of a competitive or game like element to it as opposed to just doing stunts and stuff. Basically the same idea though.
