Valve is going to pull out all the stops to make L4D2 more of a gimmick than it already is. I would have bought L4D2 the day it came out if they had only cared for L4D, but I don't want a repeat.

Why cant they just simply make this entire series separate and not throw it along with other valve games. I say this game is just a throw down because they very well knew that the l4d was going to be repeatable hunk of crap.

I was going to get L4D2 eventually, but with the hat preorder bonus, I just preordered it. At least valve are giving us other ways of getting hats instead of their retarded drop system (which won't be effective until the trading/crafting system is released). I don't see how this move is any different than other game studios putting demos of games in other products (like God of War 3, it's Sony's huge hit game so they put the demo - that alot of people want to play - in their God of War Collection game AND they put it in the bluray of District 9 which alot of people want to buy anyway).

whatever makes them more money so they can put out more quality games (HL3) and updates (TF2 trading system) I don't mind.

when you buy TF2, money goes towards L4D too ;)
you know, they are both made by Valve which are who pays those employees who work on all the Valve games and engines ;) and alot of the people who made TF2 also work on L4D1/2 so I don't see any issue.

I don't see why they don't just give everyone every hat. Theres always an annoying little chore along with them all. Like did they really need halloween achievements? Waste of time.

I swear valve likes playing god, they want people to say "OMG I GOT A HAT". And the only way to do that is to make them impossibly rare.

well these events are needed when a game goes for so many years without an official successor (like l4d is getting with l4d2). so games like runescape, and WOW for example have these special events to get their users back to playing their game and hopefully attract newcomers who want in on all the action.

as for hats, they are random and are ment to be super rare so people play longer hoping to get them. it's basically like level grinding in RPGs and stuff...you dont HAVE to be the highest level to complete/play the game but some people like doing it. with hats, you dont have to have them, but for the people who do, they will do whatever they can to get them (like participate in the Halloween event, buy l4d2, idle in idle servers)....

I will forgive Valve for milling out games in the same fashion as Madden when they give me Half Life 2: Episode 3.

My idea for hats would be to have like 20 colors for every hat and make them less rare, so the odds of you having a hat of the color you want would be hard but at least everyone would have them without it being like the halo or the gibus where the same hat is everywhere.

I don't mind them being rare but I find it annoying that you can't do anything to at least increase your chances. I think even if they made it so dominating a player gives you a .005% chance to get a hat, at least it would be something. I guess they're afraid of servers where people just kill bots, but at the end of the day its still better than idling, at least they have to sit in front of the computer.

Plus they wont charge for hats but they will give them away if you buy a game....... why not just charge for them lol 1.99 and you get 1 hat per character. Servers already charge for the hat mod so valve is really losing out.

It's just a hat in a video game, chill out. It's just an added perk for playing other valve games, I'm sure there will be other hats you guys can get if you don't like L4D.

Hats are cool and all, but I don't care enough about them to preorder a game for one, unless I wanted the game. l4d2 looks fun though and I was going to buy it before they were giving away a tf2 hat anyway. :) It's just an added bonus for me.
