Alright guys here is the new computer I am planning on building when I get back home in August. I have still got to find some ram (2x2gb), a Power Supply, and a Heatsink fan, so if anyone has any recommendations let me know. The internet here is shit and it is hard to navigate through Newegg with any sort of speed, plus I am on an MSI Wind with an atom processor and a 10 in screen. All prices are in Canadian Dollars and are from Newegg.ca. I have also forgotten how to write HTML so I just posted the links under the item name. If someone writes down how to below I will edit it later or an Admin can do it if he/she is bored:)

Case,
Coolermaster Storm Sniper $160

Processor,
Intel i5-760s $220
This is an update to the i5-750 and is coming out this month, has a 21x multiplier instead of 20x and is clocked at 2.8 instead of 2.66

Mobo,
GIGABYTE GA-P55 USB3 $140

Hard Drives,
1xWD Caviar Black 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB cache (OS & Programs) $70

2xWD Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM 32 MB cache (Media & Storage) $200
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284

Graphics Card,
EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 $340
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130550

Sound Card,
Creative X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty Champion PCI-E $180
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102021CVF&cm_re=xfi_fatal1ty-_-29-102-021CVF-_-Product

Power Supply,
?

Memory,
?

Heatsink fan,
?

Not looking to SLI or crossfire at all and will probably only give my CPU a slight overclock to 3.2 or so. Think I got all the pieces there!

Let me know what you guys think.

Thx

Get the I7 OEM, you will get the heatsink with it, and it's not that much more $$.

For the Video card, make sure you have a good ventilation case to keep the Card cool. For that card you will need a least (minimum) of a 650W powersupply. For the Ram, make sure it's DDR3 and that your motherboard can support it. DDR3 is the Futur.

In Canada, I have two place that I shop for my computer stuff, one is www.tigerdirect.ca and the other http://www.ncix.com/index.php . Ncix, have better S&H price.

Lately I just bought the GTX 480, and I found a place that had a better price for it, it's http://www.microbytes.com/, it's in Quebec. If you pay cash, you save, if you pay by credit card, you pay a little bit more.

I think that i5 is almost equivalent to the i7-860, with the difference being no hyperthreading for the i5-760 (not a big deal at all).

I would recommend a corsair psu.

From what I've read the i5-750/760 is the only way to go if money is a concern (which after a long trip to Europe, I'm assuming it is lol). You get roughly the same performance as the super expensive guys and for ~200 dollars

This article is from January so it doesn't have the i5-760 but it gets the point across

pshh you would buy a plastic case.

As long as you get a 80Plus PSU they'll be pretty good. Just don't buy silverstone :P. Stew makes a god suggestion, probably something like Corsair 750W HX (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010)(link) or anything from OCZ/Antec/PC Power&Cooling (which you know I love, but are hard to find). With that card you're easily in the 600-700W range.

You're going to want Noctua NH-U12P (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608014)(link) for HSF. Pretty much crushes and is quiet.

btw, stew, why the hell don't links have like an underline or something, it's only on for hover?

Intel:

Core i5 750
4GB DDR3-1333
P55 mobo of your choice, that giga board is decent
HD5850, GTX 470, or GTX 460 (coming July 12) would be solid
PSU: I like the corsair HX series, but as long as it has a decent warranty, solid wattage (450w+ will be plenty for that system), the connectors, and type you want (modular/non-modular) you can't go too wrong, link some that you're eyeballing and I will pass judgement on them.
Case: HAF 922 is huge and rox, Antec 300 is small and rox, I used the CM 690 Advanced II for a while

AMD:

Phenom II X4 955
4GB DDR3-1333
790X, 890GX, 890FX Board of your choice
same for the rest

Just gonna point out i use that sound card, and unless you plan on having some bumpin speakers, to play music through for parties or what not, its not necessary to have that one =P

The sound card really isn't necessary unless you do precise audio work or are some kind of audiophile. New motherboards have solid integrated audio.

Yea you guys are probably right I will just leave out the sound card for now. As much as I love the premium sound this Eurotrip is definitely going to set back my ability to buy a new sound system to make good use of the card. I mostly just use my headset now anyways.

Also the 460 looks interesting. Going to see how the benchmarks do later in the week after Tomshardware or someone can get a hold of a few.

Just out of interest sake does everyone think that the quadcore is the way to go for future gaming or do you think a high clocked i3 would suffice. Internet is shit here so I haven't been able to look up all the benchmarks for the stuff and I am losing my netbook in 3 nights so I will be on my psp or in internet cafe's until august.
