I've been doing a little and it seems like everyone is saying this processor is the best value (~$200). What do you guys think? I'm also not sure if I would have to upgrade my motherboard (Gigabyte S series GA-965P-DS3) or power supply (600W) to install it. I would also need to convince my bro that it would be a good investment but I guess that's my problem lol.

Right now I'm running on Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz

Yup I'd get that if you were into games/was you. It has loads of cache, fast as all hell. What size is your power supply right now? I doubt it would use much more power than the CPU you currently have.

If you weren't into game, I'd say the i5-661 is the best bang for your buck. Less cache, but it uses the 32nm architecture so draws less power.

i5-750 uses a different socket compared to your current cpu.. so a new mobo would be needed.

cpu is fine as hell and plenty of people here to help you oc that thing ;) but like with your current situation, if this is to solve TF2 being slow in comparisson.. not gonna happen! TF2 is bad, terrible horrible bad on multi core meaning this better cpu would still not solve the main problems. For all other things it will be a big step forwards ;)

I thought the whole point behind the turbo boost feature was to boost one core when the others weren't being used?

Ahh forgot about that yes.. i5-750 can go boosty boost to 3.2Ghz..

Considering it's more efficient than my Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz should mean you'll get some awesome results in TF2 yes ;)

What is your budget, Crux? I can list every part you'll need to fit your budget and maximize performance.

I am the hardware guru, and I have returned.

That's what I need to find out. I was kind of hoping I could just buy a new video card and everything would be better lol. I'm really not looking to build a whole new PC (not yet anyway), but just for curiosity's sake, what could I do for $500 or less?

lol the return of yoshi, now with more ego!

For $500 you can easily get the i5 750 / Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 / DDR3-1600 4GB

OR (probably what I would do if your cash strapped)

Spend ~$150 get like a Q8400 / E8500 which will probably work totally fine in your current setup, upgrade the cpu/memory/mobo down the road.

i have an e6400 myself and it can be easily overclocked to 2.8 or 3.0 without a voltage increase. it will go to 3.6 with a slight voltage increase if your cooling is alright. might want to try that first since tf2 likes high core speed over multiple cores. also i am typeing from my psp in france so i wont be able to check much until i get home on aug 3rd.
