Nice! I got mine too :)

Should add each other to friends list so I wont be playing alone. I used to be a crazy commander back in the days, if your a good grunt, you can be my ninja commando. If anything like NS1 used to be, I hope your a badass with a shotgun n jet pack. I used to outlive any heavy armor with lmg adn welder group.

I'll be your ninja commando :)

Natural selection was a mod for half-life that blended rts and fps. For the marines you have a commander much like bf2. The commander would place buildings in which the other players would have to build by pressing E. There were resource nodes you had to take in order for the commander to give you better weapons, upgrades, and gear.

The Aliens I always compared it to the starcraft zerg units.

Gorge- Was the team builder (Drone)
Skulk- was the basic attacker unit (zergling)
Lerk- was the support flyer (muta)
Fade- was the medium attacker (hydra)
Onos- was the heavy tank (ultra)

The aliens had no commander so everyone at the start would decide what to do. Usually one or two went gorge to get nodes, one saved for another hive, and some saved for fade.

The mod was free to download and play

All you need is half-life one

How is natural selection 2? Is it as awesome as the first one? I know it's only Alpha but how does it play?

Right now, the ambiance is like doom3, but with more lights. We can only shoot target dummy for now, but eventually we will shoot other marine and finnaly some skull.

Here some news

So it's with great pleasure that today we take the next step in our open development and partnership with you. On Monday, July 26th, we will be releasing the NS2 Playable Alpha to all the Special Edition pre-orderers, on Steam. Like with NS1, this is not the complete game, this is the first of many versions. Here's what you can expect on that day:

Here the web page i found the info http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/

did is not HL1 engine. It's a new one they created, not depended on valve on anything. Accept Steam, where they deliver the content of the game.

looks good, but there are a lot of mods with a similar theme that i have tried, and unfortunately none of them really have very many players

The NS2 Alpha Build 152 is now live on Steam! This patch represented a large engineering effort, to make the physics, networking and hit registration work much better.

Here's a summary of the changes:

•Fixed hit registration problems
•Fixed various "hitching" problems
•New commander minimap, with "blips"
•New dedicated server web interface
•A dozen or so new view model animations
•Added alien "Crag" structure
•Added sound occlusion so sounds behind walls/objects sound muffled
•New marine Commander "Replicate" ability - instantly duplicates a built marine structure
•Context-sensitive mouse cursors
•Commander alerts
•Marine squads, order giving and waypoints
•Hive sight
•Much better Lerk flight
•Bullet spread like NS1
•Drifter "flare" ability that blinds marines (will require research)
•Soundscape filters when you are hurt, spectating, etc.
•Low health screen effects
•Marine power grid - Power nodes on walls power lights and marine structures. Damaging power nodes causes lights to flicker, hurting them a lot causes lights to power cycle ominously and killing them makes the lights go out for a bit, before switching to aux. power and coming back on to limited usage. Marine structures power down and stop working when power node is destroyed, and come back online when repaired.
•Added marine flamethrower
•Bullet tracers
•Skulk bite now connects more often (capsule trace instead of line)
•Reworked ns2_tram expansion, vents and lots of polish

and many more.

Old post is old. I'm waiting for it to come out and be a success first. I played Savage (beasts vs humans) where both teams had a commander same style as NS and it was pretty amazing. The engine was shit with glitches because the company lost money and just shoved it out there. Now its free if anyone wants to play it.

Any updates for NS2?

Maybe they should work on engine stability before the next patch  ?

There a new Introduction video out. It's show you more of how the game play from the view of the marines and the commander and the views of the aliens.

Watching the video doesnt make it seem like they are balanced. I played a game called Savage which had humans vs beasts and it was very balanced. melee vs melee was the main and then weapons at range. this just makes it look like humans can rape while the aliens jump around.

When does this go live? I want to play it if they fix it.

it's still in the early stage of beta, should be coming out this year. They have to improve the lag problem between client and server. Some server are smooth, till it get full, then it's lags. 6 vs 6 are smooth. 8 vs 8, starting to get lag, 10 and over forget it for now.
